QLD PAINT HORSE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW & PAINT-O-RAMA 22nd - 26th JULY
2009
What beautiful weather QLD had during the State Show recently with one day ending up around 26
degrees. I really enjoy the friendly show atmosphere at Caboolture, one big reason why I keep coming back! It was lovely to catch up with many friends and also
to meet many new ones. Sadly this was Magnificent Touchdown's final show but what a fabulous show he had and once again he had many many folks cheering for him. I
have had such a fantastic experience showing Spike and many proud moments holding the shank of this magnificent stallion. Magnificent Touchdown is now happily grazing once
again in his paddock and enjoying his retirement.

the time being Pretty is enjoying a well deserved break.

NATIONAL PLEASURE HORSE ASSOCIATION 17th May 2009
This was one show I was really looking forward to competing at drawing huge numbers of entrants and the best
horses from all over the country making for some very strong competition. Once again 'MAGNIFICENT TOUCHDOWN' stole the hearts of many and I was so overwhelmed with
the cheers from the crowd when he was pulled out for FIRST PLACE in the 2YO & OVER HALTER MATURITY. That was certainly a big win in my books against some awesome competition
and I just couldn't hold back the tears. Spike is just a fabulous horse to show and so much fun and he has that aura about him that just draws you to him and I can't tell you
how proud I am to be on the end of the lead.

My first event was the Open Weanling Halter Futurity which had some 23 entries on the program &
and awesome babies and I knew I had my work cut out for me as Oh So Pretty Pretty had caught a cold and was very very flat and she had her eyes shut most of the time while in the
pen. I glanced around at some of the other competitors and thought wow there are some really nice babies in here but then again I had one too and so it was
going to be interesting. The final decision of the judge was made and he placed her in 8th place, I was a bit disapointed as I thought she was as good as the top group but
then again I probably shouldn't have had her out so that was my call. In the next class the judge commented to me that he absolutely loved my filly but I did not have her
standing correctly in front which cost me so I look upon that as a lesson learnt. Hours and hours passed before the paint halter classes were on so I kept Pretty out
in the lovely sunshine to graze which seemed to perk her up a bit for her halter classes where she was awarded Grand Champion Paint Filly or Mare & Reserve Grand A/O Paint behind
Magnificent Touchdown.

I can sure tell you it was great finally having at least a weekend free from shows but not for long as I
found myself banding and getting ready for another full weekend of showing but at least this time it was held locally. The ECAPWPA is held at Wauchope NSW west of Port Macquarie
and is a very friendly club with a very strong paint horse following.
The club is planning to hold another Paint-o-Rama next year so keep an eye out on their website www.ecwpa.com

VICTORIAN PAINT HORSE ASSOCIATION 2009 STATE SHOW
WERRIBEE VICTORIA APRIL 25TH & 26TH
Only two days after the NSWPHA State Show we were back on the road again heading down south for the long
haul to Werribee VIC. I couldn't believe it was bucketing down rain at home when we left driving across our flooded causeway only to be absolutely shocked hours and hours later
when we gazed upon the drought stricken countryside of southern NSW and VIC. As sad as it was to see the country side looking like that It was so nice to see beautiful
sunshine the next day and just sit and relax but that did not last too long as I think we must have somehow brought some rain with us as leading up to the show and both show days it blew a
gale and absolutely poured down that hard that you couldn't hear the person next to you speak but all in all we had a great time not only showing but being a cheer squad for a lot of
competitors and trying to get the mexican wave going was so much fun!
We had another AWESOME show and once again Magnificent Touchdown had the crowd all talking and
cheering! and I was also overwhelmed with cheers and clapping when Oh So Pretty Pretty was called out for first place in the VPHA Weanling Futurity so it seemed I had the crowd's
favourites which is a great feeling!

PAINT HORSE ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA 2009 NATIONAL SHOW
WOW what a show of all shows I had this time! one to remember for a long time. I can't
tell you how proud I was of Magnificent Touchdown IMP who was the talk of the show. I think so many people couldn't believe how beautiful he is with a gorgeous nature
to go with that. The people that had brought him some apples were intrigued at just how dainty he eats them....lots of little bites and lots of apple juice to go with
that. Thank you so much for all your lovely comments, I am one very proud owner indeed. Spike was not the only one getting all the attention, I think I
shocked quite a few people with SC Oh So Pretty Pretty. I knew I had bred a "great one" the moment I saw her and I feel so blessed to have her all to myself.
She is one outstanding filly with all the trimmings to make her World Show quality from what I have seen and she has also made me very proud to have not only bred her but to have bred her
outstanding sire SC Showdown who also had an illustrious show career. SC Showdown is now owned by Shirley and Ron Downey of Belreve Stud, Happy Birthday Shirley that
futurity win was for you!!
Another highlight of the show was to get a visit from a friend that I had not seen or had any contact with
for approximately 23 years........it was so lovely to see you again Valerie!

hearing many more great achieivements from this awesome team!
2008 PHAA NATIONAL SHOW
I have just recently come home from the very cold 2008 PHAA National Show and considering I have not had my horses in work due to
being overseas and away from home I am extremely pleased with my results. I was especially delighted with SC This Cowgirlsgotbling as this was her only 2nd outing and she
was such a good girl. She stood perfectly during the 2008 Weanling Futurity while many others I saw were up in the air and it was absolutely freezing that particular
night. I had great fun showing her and even with her swollen healing leg and being unclipped unlike the majority of the others she still scored a 4th place from the Halter
Judge Trisha Shorten Armstrong so that made me very happy.

It was a very special moment to watch Jessica Sparkman lead Emma in the Youth Fillies or Mares class. Jessica was just literally handed the lead
and went in the class and it was just so lovely to watch. Congratulations Jessica!!!
SC SHOWDOWN - National Champion A/O 3yo Stallions, National Champion 3yo Stallion, 2nd place
2yo & over Halter Futurity (13). Firston had a great show and a lot of people were amazed at how BIG he has grown. He is maturing into a gorgeous stallion and I
would like to Congratulate Shirley & Ron on their purchase of Showdown. This was a very unexpected sale and a bit emmotional for me as I miss him already but
he has gone to a loving caring home and I look forward to seeing the many outstanding babies that he will sire.
CONGRATULATIONS SHIRLEY & RON!!!!

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW July 2006
I was overwhelmed with our placings considering that we had not even been home
a week prior from our 3 week holiday in the USA with all our horses been thrown
in the paddock but I was not going to miss this show as we always have such fun
there. The karaoke was a blast again but I danced or should I say twisted to

Burkes First To Rumble
It was so good having some very tough competition in the Paint Bred classes this
year and "Fruity" had a great show especially winning the NSWPHA 2yo
Halter Maturity with a Paint Bred but unfortunately she had an accident resulting in a capped hock just the day before her National Show class which saw her being
placed accordingly, so now I have to decide whether to continue her show career
or put her in foal. What do you think?

SC Cowgirls Are Obvious
This was "Betbets" very first outing into the show arena and she took
it all in her stride. I just loved showing this filly, she has the sweetest easiest
nature and is a pleasure to handle. Just 3 weeks prior to the National Show "Betbet" injured
her front leg playing around with another foal whilst I was away competing at
the VPHA State Show. I tried frantically to help heal the injury and as she was
never lame I took the punt and brought her along to compete alongside "Burkes
First To Rumble". She had many visitors to her stable and I think was a
clear favourite amongst many people.
